  Rowed columns with the occasional outcropping—

  where farmboys wrestle in shirtsleeves

  Until it’s too hot,

  and their underarms stained yellow-brown.

 

Bathing in the dirt,

  where golden skin is a medal—a testament

  to being six feet above

  and peach-fuzzed.

 

Chuffing like bucks in late spring—

  green husks stick to boot soles

  and farmboys pick each other like brambles

  before belts crack off like dinner bells.
